Both personally and professionally, I’m a big fan of Twitter. The tool is great for listening, learning and connecting.

A few months ago, Hubspot introduced a new tool called Twitter Grader. Twitter Grader seeks to quantify a person’s Twitter profile by using the following information:

  • The number of followers you have
  • The power of this network of followers
  • The pace of your updates
  • The completeness of your profile
  • …a few others

Twitter Grader continues to improve and add new features. One feature they added was segmenting their “Twitter Elite” into cities, thus making it easier for more people to reach “Elite” Status.

Well ladies and gentlemen, tonight, LuxorLV is officially part of the Las Vegas Twitter Elite! I even took a screenshot to prove it 🙂 I think this calls for a PB+J martini celebration!

In July we partnered with Orbitz for their Fill a Plane promotion.

The idea behind the promotion was as follows:

  • – Create a plane
  • – Get 300 of your friends to (a) fill it and (b) agree on the destination (Aruba, Las Vegas or Orlando)

The prize package was:

  • – Winner and 299 friends received a 4 day, 3 night trip to one of the participating destinations.
  • – For each person, the prize package included accommodations, airfare and $250 of “play money”.

The promotion was really cool and took off like wild fire with thousands of people participating and choosing Luxor in Las Vegas as their destination of choice!

Did You Know

This October celebrates Luxor’s 15th anniversary/birthday. In honor of being 15, I thought I’d share some interesting trivia about the “old” and the “new” Luxor throughout the rest of October.

Did you know:

  • The Luxor light (or Beam) is the most powerful beam of light in the world. The Xenon beam can be seen from outer space and generates 42.2 billion candlepower.
  • It takes a specially designed window washing device 64 hours to clean all four sides of the pyramid.
  • Luxor’s ten-story Sphinx is taller than the original Great Sphinx in Egypt
  • Luxor utilizes 16 incline devices called “inclinators” that transport guests at a 39 degree angle from the casino level to floors #6 and above. [side note: we now call these “elevators”]
  • It takes 553,000 gallons of water to fill the five-acre pool area which includes four pools and four whirlpools.
  • The IMAX Theatre at the Luxor was 68×84 feet making it one of the largest in the world. Note: The IMAX Theatre closed in 2008. Opening in its place will be Titantic: The Artifact Exhibition.
  • Luxor is the second largest resort in the United States (based on number of guest rooms) with over 4,408 rooms and suites.

Vegas Visitors

I’m on “vacation” for the next few days. Old family friends in town + 4 weeks of vacation time I need to use up before January = taking 5 days off. I LOVE when friends come into town because it helps me see Vegas like everyone else does. After living here for two years, I’ve gotten used to the giant buildings, bright lights and 24 hour service. You mean your grocery store isn’t opened 24 hours and sells any liquor imaginable?

For me, having friends in town brings back the excitement and makes me realize how cool my job really is. Because I’m a dork, I can’t wait to take my friends on a tour of Luxor and point out all our new venues, transformations and tell some of the stories behind them. While some parts are still under construction (mostly the Atrium level), you can finally start to see the “new” Luxor from the inside. It’s pretty (I should probably say sleek, sexy or upscale, but today, I’m going with pretty) and I’m proud of everyones hard work to make these changes become a reality!

Oh yeah, and spending the day laying out at the pool and ignoring email won’t be too bad either 🙂
